On November 11, 2022, Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health issued two notices through the 266th issue of the Government Gazette, revising the list of permitted sunscreens used in cosmetics. These notices have taken effect from November 12, 2022.
The main revisions include:
1. Newly adding Methoxypropylamino Cyclohexenylidene Ethoxyethylcyanoacetate (MCE) as a permitted sunscreen agent, and setting limits on its use, as listed below. 1

2. Stipulating the labeling requirements for cosmetics containing MCE, which requires that the following warning information shall be indicated on the product label. 2
- The use of sunscreens is one way to reduce the dangers from sun exposure;
- Please read the usage instructions carefully and strictly follow them;
- Discontinue use and consult a doctor or pharmacist if any adverse reactions occur.
Notably, Thailand’s revisions to the permitted sunscreens list are in line with the updates to the List of Permitted UV Filters (Annex VII) under the ASEAN Cosmetic Directive adopted by the 34th ASEAN Cosmetic Committee.
