The annual declarationends submission period ends on November 30, 2022.

On July 28, the Australian Government issued a notice – ‘It’s time to start submitting your annual declarations’ to remind introducers (manufacturers or importers), who have introduced industrial chemicals or products containing industrial chemicals (e.g., cosmetics, paints and plastics) to Australia during the 2021-2022 registration year*, to submit the corresponding annual declaration within the submission period.

Annual declaration is a basic post-registration obligation under the Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS), which came into force on July 1, 2020 as an overarching regulatory framework for introduction of industrial chemicals into Australia. It applies to all introduction categories (see figure below) of industrial chemicals.

Introducers that are obliged to submit an annual declaration shall complete the submission as soon as possible before the deadline, ensuring the chemical activities in Australia are legal and compliant. The annual declaration is easy to submit as it just needs to complete filling a form (see here).

Notably, regarding the introduction category – ‘Exempted’, a separate notice was specially issued on July 28, 2022 by the Australian Government to stress the submission of the post-introduction declarations. That is, manufactures or importers, who have introduced certain types of chemicals that were categorized as ‘Exempted’ during the 2021-2022 registration year, shall submit a separate post-introduction declaration for each chemical categorized as ‘Exempted’ before November 30, 2022.
